Part of How to Evaluate Digital Marketing Platforms
Digital marketing platforms use cases, reviewed for 2027
Digital marketing platform use cases for 2027 reviewed by name, covering what each tool does, who it suits, and how pricing and ad spend work.
What to take away
- Digital marketing platforms use cases for 2027, reviewed here by name: Google Analytics 4, Adobe Analytics, HubSpot, Salesforce, and Klaviyo.
- The review also covers Braze, Semrush, Ahrefs, Google Search Console, and Mailchimp. Google Ads and Meta Ads Manager handle paid demand.
- A use case is a job with a named platform, an owner, and a system that confirms the work finished.
- Google Analytics 4 and Adobe Analytics report behavior; neither confirms a sale. Your order system does.
- HubSpot and Salesforce hold the customer record. Klaviyo and Braze send messages but do not own the transaction.
- Semrush and Ahrefs supply search evidence.
- Write the exit route before you signexport format, contract term, and who owns the data.
Digital marketing platforms use cases get clearer when you name the tool and the job it does. For a 2027 plan, review each tool against a named job.
The platforms, by job
Each entry below states the job, the buyer it suits, and the cost or limit. Prices are vendor list prices where the vendor publishes them, otherwise labelled typical ranges.
Platforms by job and pricing
Google Analytics 4
- Job
- Web and app behavior
- Best for
- Most teams, default
- Pricing
- Free
- Weakness
- Settings drift unnoticed
HubSpot
- Job
- Contact, forms, email
- Best for
- Mid-market teams
- Pricing
- Tiers plus contacts
- Weakness
- Cost climbs with list
Klaviyo
- Job
- Lifecycle email and SMS
- Best for
- Ecommerce teams
- Pricing
- Contacts and sends
- Weakness
- Needs event reads
Google Analytics 4 reports web and app behavior. It is free, and it is the default reporting layer for most teams. Its weakness is the same as its strength: anyone can change a setting, and nobody notices until the numbers stop matching orders. Use it for 2027 trend and channel reporting.
Adobe Analytics does the same job for large enterprises, with stronger segmentation and a contract most small teams cannot justify. Adobe does not publish list pricing, so ask for a written quote and compare it against GA4 360, which Google also quotes rather than lists.
HubSpot combines a contact record, forms, email, and reporting. It suits mid-market teams that want one login. Pricing runs on tiers plus contact volume, and the cost climbs as your list grows. Starter seats typically list under $30 per seat per month, and Professional tiers typically run into the high hundreds monthly.
Salesforce holds the sales record and the pipeline. It suits teams with a sales operation already running on it. Pricing is per seat, per edition, and implementations are usually quoted separately. Starter editions list around $25 per user per month, with Enterprise editions well above $150.
Klaviyo sends lifecycle email and SMS, and it reads events from your store. It suits ecommerce teams. The free plan covers about 250 contacts and 500 monthly sends, and paid tiers scale with contacts and send volume.
Braze does the same for larger consumer apps, with cross-channel orchestration and a contract priced on monthly active users. Braze publishes no rate card, so treat any figure you see as a quote based on your own active-user count.
Semrush and Ahrefs supply keyword, backlink, and competitor data on subscription tiers. They suit in-house SEO teams and agencies that run their own content and link work, not teams that want the research done for them. Semrush's Pro tier lists around $140 per month billed monthly, and Ahrefs Starter around $29 per month, with higher tiers for more reports and seats.
Google Search Console is free and shows queries, impressions, clicks, positions, and indexing problems for your own site.
Mailchimp handles email and basic automation for small lists. The free plan covers 500 contacts and 1,000 sends per month, and paid tiers add contacts, templates, and reporting.
Meta Ads Manager runs audience and creative tests inside Meta's ad auction. It suits teams that produce creative in volume. There is no minimum spend, and you are billed on impressions or clicks against a daily budget.
Google Ads captures search and shopping demand in an auction. You set a daily budget rather than an annual contract, and you pay per click. Small-account budgets in most markets typically start in the low hundreds of dollars per month.
Match the use case to the tool
Demand capture belongs in HubSpot or Salesforce, where the accepted lead record lives. Lifecycle messaging belongs in Klaviyo or Braze, triggered by confirmed events. Search evidence belongs in Search Console, with Semrush or Ahrefs for competitor context.
Where the stack breaks
Three failures repeat. Tracking fires before consent, so the report counts people who never agreed. A conversion window is set to 30 days when the sales cycle runs 90, so paid channels look worse than they are. A case study claims a lift with no baseline, no test window, and no named source.
Vendor claim evidence test
- Tracking fires only after consent
- Conversion window matches sales cycle
- Case study names a baseline
- Test window is stated
- Source is named
- Evaluation question maps to evidence
The GAO evaluation design guide connects an evaluation question to the evidence that can answer it. That is the reason a lift claim needs a baseline, a test window, and a named source. Apply that test to any vendor claim before it enters a budget request.
The W3C Privacy Principles statement sets out shared privacy concepts for web systems and warns against pushing that work onto individuals. That is the reason consent is a precondition, not a setting added later. Consent mode, server-side tagging, and retention settings follow from it, and the governing law is set by your state regulator, not by a vendor blog.
For 2027, the concrete change to plan around is consent mode. Google required Consent Mode v2 for ads personalization in the EEA from March 2024, and Safari and Firefox already block third-party cookies by default. The work is to record consent state before any tag fires and to hold a first-party identifier your own database controls.
A worked example
A retailer runs GA4, Klaviyo, and HubSpot. Orders live in Shopify. The team wants to know whether email drives repeat purchase.
Reconciling email to repeat purchase
- Define completed order event with email click
- Confirm Klaviyo reads the event
- Set attribution window to repurchase cycle
- Pull same period from Shopify
- Reconcile totals before trusting reports
- Write fallback if event stops firing
The figures below are an illustration, not a vendor figure.
- Export the Klaviyo campaign and flow report by day, with click IDs and order IDs.
- Export Shopify orders for the same 90 days, keeping the order ID and the UTM fields.
- Join the two on order ID. A join on customer email merges repeat buyers into one row.
- Align the windows. Klaviyo's default 5-day click window drops orders placed on day 6.
- Check the HubSpot contact record for the same order, so one customer with two orders stays one contact.
- Compare the joined total with GA4 purchase events for the same sessions, and write the gap down.
Illustrative numbers: Klaviyo reports $48,000 of email-attributed revenue for the quarter, while the order-ID join returns $31,400 over the same period. GA4 reports 1,240 purchase events from email sessions, and the joined Shopify total for those orders reaches $34,900 at a 7-day window.
The team reported $34,900, marked the $13,100 difference against Klaviyo's own figure as unattributed, and stopped quoting platform revenue in the quarterly review. Nobody bought a new tool.
The digital marketing campaigns tools you already pay for will do this. The gap is usually the reconciliation step, not the software.
Before you buy
Write the source of truth for each use case, the platform's role, the integration, and the exit route. A small stack with explicit boundaries beats one suite expected to do everything. That document also answers common digital marketing campaigns questions about tagging and attribution, and it is the first thing to check when choosing digital marketing platforms.
Common questions
What makes a platform use case useful?
It names the platform, the trigger, the data source, the owner, and the system that confirms the work finished. If you cannot test it with real data, it is a category, not a use case.
Can one platform own every outcome?
Rarely. Marketing tools execute and report work. Sales, payment, fulfillment, and finance keep their own authoritative records, and those records decide what actually happened.
How should a use case be tested?
Run it with realistic data and the people who use it daily. Test the duplicate, the late event, the failed send, the lost access, and the export before you rely on any of it.
